ALLEY CONSTRUCTION

COMPANY HISTORY

Wesley Sevenster founded Alley Construction in 2019 after serving as General Manager of a CIDB 8ce construction company for several years. In 2018, the managing director of the previous company retired, and the company was closed. To preserve jobs, Wesley launched Alley Construction and was able to hire 90% of the previous company’s workforce. This decision not only helped retain jobs but also allowed Alley Construction to immediately handle various projects – from minor to significant structures.

Currently, Alley Construction has a CIDB rating of 7CE and is Level 2 B-BBEE compliant. Recently, the company has completed projects as both a subcontractor and a primary contractor for well-known companies such as TRAC, Tau Pele Construction, and Lonerock Construction.

ABOUT

WESLEY SEVENSTER

Wesley has over 20 years of experience in the civil engineering and construction industry. Between 2001 and 2008, Wesley owned a small construction company in the Waterberg area of Limpopo, which had clients such as Anglo American Platinum, Exxaro, and Northam Platinum.

Wesley Sevenster

Owner

In 2009, Wesley joined Stefanutti Stocks, where he was involved in the construction of two reservoirs at Medupi Power station. He was later headhunted by Allasso Construction, where he worked as a foreman on their bridge construction projects. By 2017, Wesley had been promoted to the position of General Manager at Allasso Construction, and in 2019, after the company was shut down, he founded Alley Construction.

Since 2011, Wesley has established himself as a bridge specialist with significant stakeholders in the industry, including consultants, contractors, and end-users.

WHAT WE DO

Since its inception, Alley Construction has focussed on bridge structures. We have now added a bridge parapet division, which specialises in the construction of bridge parapets for contractors across the country.

As a 7CE company, we are equally at ease with small and large projects, up to the value of R200 million. Although we operate throughout South Africa, we can also work cross-border.

Alley Construction can execute multiple projects simultaneously, with most of our projects done as a joint venture or subcontracting to main contractors, as per the industry norm.
Since 2019, Alley has built strong relationships with several main contractors, assisting with tenders, helping meet community needs and obligations together (including local spend), and ensuring successful project completion.

Despite being able to work on multiple concurrent projects, we only take on enough work to enable Wesley Sevenster (Alley Construction’s owner) to spend quality time on-site at least once a week. This ensures our culture of producing quality work and peace of mind for our clients.

Alley Construction has always attempted to remain as streamlined as possible, with low overheads and a balanced, simple management structure. This allows us to keep our pricing flexible, make quick decisions, and have fewer time constraints by cutting out the red tape.

HOW WE DO IT

Before the job starts:

The main contractor will provide Alley Construction with the tender framework.

Alley will work out its strategy with the main contractor or client.

Alley will identify suppliers and specialists required for the tender in the specified area of operation.

Alley will compile a detailed tender programme.

Alley will then only price the BoQ.

Alley will submit the completed tender to the client.

Alley may be asked to price the same project for multiple main contractors, but we guarantee consistent pricing and attention for all clients.

Once we are appointed:

Alley Construction, upon appointment and instruction, will establish on-site and be responsible for getting a site-specific safety file approved and in place.

Alley will ensure that all applicable mix designs are done and accepted by the engineers.

Alley will compile all required method statements and meet with the PLO and PLC to ensure compliance with local spend.

We are also more than willing (and would prefer) to be part of the contractor’s progress and technical meetings with the Engineers and clients.

Execution of the work:

We will ensure each project is resourced efficiently and adequately, with competent site agents, foremen, quantity surveyors, safety officers, and a team of core skilled workers.

Additional labour will be sourced from local communities.

We’ll ensure adequate on-site equipment, including plant, vehicles, and water pumps.

Wesley Sevenster will conduct weekly site visits (or as needed) to maintain good relationships with clients, engineers, and end-user representatives.

This approach guarantees consistent oversight of production and work quality.
